Vinyasa yoga or Vinyasa flow is not a system and it does not follow a
proper lineage, hierarchy, or a guru. Vinyasa yoga does not have any official
founder as this type of yoga is called as a modern style yoga. Vinyasa yoga is
originated from the tradition of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. The Ashtanga Vinyasa
yoga is based on the teaching of the Sri Krishnamacharya. He taught that the
movements between each asana should be considered of the same important as the
posture themselves. The basic idea behind this is to deepen concentration and make body consciousness throughout the entire session. Not only just focusing
on “getting the posture” and just breathing, in Vinyasa yoga, the main motive
is the deep breathing and body consciousness level the same throughout the
session.
Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya:
The grandfather of modern yoga is Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. He
learned this technique in 1916 in the Himalayas. In the Himalayas, he met his
guru, Sri Kamamohan Brahmachari, and there he spent more than seven and a half
years with him. There he studied the Ashtanga (Raja) yoga system, which is also
called as Eight Limbs of Yoga.
In 1933, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya started to teach yoga in the Mysore,
India and from there he teaches in Madras, India to many Indians and western
students. Pattabhi Jois was his best-known student include BKS Iyengar, Indra
Devi, and TKV Desikachar. By learning this yoga there is a developing of
various styles of yoga from this.
What is Vinyasa Yoga?
In simple words, Vinyasa yoga is called a freestyle yoga as it does not
adhere to the strict structure of the Ashtanga Vinyasa series set out by
Pattabhi Jois.
The Vinyasa yoga follows the Ashtanga primary series, which starts with
Surya Namaskar A and B but later different sequences are there in it. There is
no rigid series of poses that are there in the Vinyasa yoga. The main purpose
of Vinyasa yoga is to allow one to explore a changing syllabus of poses.
Vinyasa Meaning:
The word Vinyasa is comprising of two words “Nyasa” has several meanings
like “to place”, “special order”, and “attention” and “Vi”, which means
“specially”. The term Vinyasa can be best interpreted a
